How Skittles Are Made
How Skittles Are Made
Skittles are made through a process called “panning.” The process of making Skittles candies typically includes the following steps:
- Sugar Syrup: The first step is creating a sugar syrup, which is a mixture of sugar, corn syrup, and water. This syrup is heated and mixed together until it reaches the correct consistency.
- Adding Flavors and Colors: Next, natural and artificial flavors and colors are added to the sugar syrup. The mixture is then cooled and poured into a large rotating drum called a “pan.”
- Panning: The mixture is then agitated in the pan, which coats the mixture with a thin layer of sugar. This process is repeated several times, building up layers of sugar and creating the hard, shiny shell on the outside of the candy.
- Shaping and Cooling: The candy is then shaped and cooled. Skittles candies are shaped into small round candies.
- Final Processing: The Skittles candies are then polished with corn starch to give them a shiny appearance, and then passed through a machine that sorts them by color.
- Packaging: The Skittles candies are then packaged into bags or other containers for sale.
It’s worth noting that the process of making Skittles candies can vary depending on the recipe and method used. The company may use different ingredients and procedures to make different flavors and colors of Skittles candies.
